WHAT WE OFFER...

  • We are backed by 17 years of experience preparing children and teens of all ages; we coach students in: 
  • creating a unique and original art portfolio with works that are directly connected to the student.
  • learning and practicing for the audition tasks (different for every school)
  • tailoring the interview to the school they are applying to. 

Every year the lead magnet teachers from DASH and NWSA visit our students to meet them and tell them all about the application process.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT STUDENTS START PREPARING EARLY 

  • 7th grade for HS 
  • 4th grade for MS. 
  • Sophomores for College.

In the past 5 years, we have seen students taking much longer to get ready and have a harder time with creativity. Some factors include a heavier load of homework from school and the prevalence of digital devices in our students’ life, including social media and videogames. Depression and anxiety have skyrocketed.

OUR CLASSES

The Portfolio Prep Program is tailored to each individual applicant. 

Our students are successful when:

  • they learn how to think creatively, 
  • have time to explore new ways of doing things
  • dare take risks
  • find their own voice when making their work.

Application to these programs is highly competitive. Unlike sports, there are no qualifying matches. There is only one opportunity to be accepted: the day of the audition and portfolio presentation.

We prep your student for every aspect of the application and give you, the parent, all the relevant information to get the best opportunities and best fit for your student, including:

  • Portfolio development
  • Sketchbook development
  • Audition tasks prep (these are 2 or 3 exercises they need to do on the day of the audition
  • Interview Prep
  • Where and when to apply to get the best dates

The earlier the student starts, the higher are the chances of being accepted and the lower the anxiety level for your child. Give your student the time they need to prepare for these very competitive and highly successful programs. Once accepted they’ll be happier and more engaged in real-life learning.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

The Portfolio Prep Program has 4 components
1. A mandatory weekly class, 2.5 hours long: where the student will be working to develop original ideas, do explorations and acquire new skills
2. Mandatory Studio hours, 2.5 hours a week: where the student creates in the studio, and a teacher is available to answer technical questions.
3. Mandatory Work at home: where the student will work on main projects, research, and sketchbook explorations and practices, as well as independent self-driven work.
4. Virtual Coaching or in-studio consultation: available by appointment, to clarify any issue that might come up when the student is working at home. Students must be up to date with the work. 

5 contact hours with teachers every week

Portfolio students need the commitment to come to at least one weekly class & studio hours until the work is done and the skills for the audition are achieved* Students who fall behind due to lack of work require more work on our part. Consequently, the monthly payment will go up.

HOW TO APPLY TO PORTFOLIO PREP:

Diagnostic Eval: 

Applicants should come with a list of target schools that has been shared with parents to evaluate realistic access feasibility. 

All the artwork created in the past year or two must be brought to the diagnostic eval, as well as sketchbooks. We are looking for ideas, not for technique. Please do not decide what is good and what is not. We’d like to see everything.

Be prepared to work on 2 projects for about 2 hours.

HOW IS THE PRICING FOR PORTFOLIO PREP CALCULATED?

When registering, you will see the total price of the program if your child were to need only the regular classes and studio hours. 

  • We calculate the number of classes from the start date till the end of January 2024.
  • The price is prorated. The program is paid in installments. To see the installment amount, please click on “More Info.”
  • ​If you finish the program before the end date, we will pause the installments and recalculate the balance with you.
